An Excel spreadsheet contains a list of tables (sheets). Excel spreadsheets can be stored in a couple of related [file formats](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/microsoft_excel#xml_spreadsheet).

- Office Open XML as the primary format from Excel 2007.
- Excel Binary File Format (.XLS) as the primary format before 2007.
