Data Expansion
- Record-Breaking Coverage Improvement:
We’ve added 770,037 new points of interest (POIs) this month! Powered by our newly scaled ingestion and verification system, this release marks an all-time record for both Total Added and Total Updated places. By processing and resolving our largest volume of data sources to date, we’re delivering our most accurate and comprehensive dataset yet.

Data Expansion
- POI Expansion: We've continued to expand our dataset by adding 467,726 new points of interest. This month we have productionized an agent based verification system, that measures the validity, real-ness, and open status of ingested data before adding the venues to our dataset. While this criteria has always been part of the workflow, the new system allows for more nuanced contextual reasoning and processes more decisions at a larger scale. PM Tools & Business Listings
- In Business Listings, business owners can now share Swarm Checkin QR codes with customers to encourage checkins at their businesses. The QR codes can be managed in the Business Listings dashboard. Encouraging checkins helps improve their business’ popularity in our search results.
- In Placemaker Tools, we have added an Autocomplete feature to the Add Place workflow. This helps users fill in more complete venue information for newly created places.
- There has been a significant increase in Placemaker user activity over the last few months. This results in more human suggested edits, human votes, and first-party created places.

New Delivery Channel
- An offering is now available in the Databricks Marketplace, so users can access the monthly releases of Places and Categories in their Databricks workspaces.
New Transaction Matching API
- We have released a new API endpoint to Enterprise Customers for Transaction Matching to provide developers with a reliable method for extracting real world place information out of transaction strings.
- Developers can batch input transaction strings and the API will return matched Foursquare POI with clean venue name, standard address, precise latitude and longitude, and a fsq_place_id to retrieve other rich attributes in our details endpoint.

- POI Expansion: We've continued to expand our dataset by adding 204,980 new points of interest, targeting high quality sources from our improved web crawl infrastructure and venue creation methodology. Below are the top 10 countries by volume of newly created POI

Data Quality & Enrichment
- Geocoordinate Accuracy We deployed updates to our geosummarizer model that improved the geocoordinate accuracy of 256,899 venues in the following countries: US - 117,756; Germany - 86,013; Australia - 32,653, France - 8,658, Canada - 7,054 and Italy - 4,762.
- Place Name Standardization: We improved the accuracy and standardization of
localityandregionattributes using a process comparing nearby POI and ranking similarity scores of existing values. We standardized the values of these attributes for 477,217 venues in the US and 893,022 venues in the Rest of the World.
Places API
- We released our new Ask API to Pay-As-You-Go tier customers, offering developers the ability to use natural language search parameters enabling rich user experiences.
PM Tools
- Users can now invite friends via email.
- We have launched our first third-party app built on our PM Tools platform with our partner MapRGo.

Data Quality & Enrichment
Venue Closures: We continue to make progress on our initiative to improve the accuracy of venue closures. This has resulted in the closure of 63,906 POI since the previous release.
Hours Accuracy We executed an initiative to improve the accuracy of the hours attribute, and resolved suggested edits to 118,667 POI across the global dataset.
Place Name Standardization:
Region: We updated 1,160,847 POI in Brazil to use the standard two-letter abbreviation for state in the region attribute.
- Admin Region: We updated 57,514 POI in Italy to use the official first-level administrative name in the admin_region attribute.
PM Tools
- Monthly Active Users have increased by 50%, and the rate of edits and new places created has increased by 33%.
- Users can now invite their friends to be Placemakers via hyperlink and share posts through Twitter, WhatsApp, and LinkedIn.

- The user contribution page now displays the total number of new places created, with a tooltip offering daily and weekly statistics.
